Rimels / Zenbu

Rimels Rotissarie Chicken (don’t let the name fool you) and Zenbu are both great additions to the Cardiff -by-the-Sea Restaurant/  scene. Rimels may be called rotissarie chicken but the fish is the ticket. whether over a salad, with a rice bowl, or as a sandwich the fish is always delicious.  Some nites they have music playing outside for entertainment so make sure you stop in and try the potstickers too.  Zenbu is a great upscale sushi bar. There is great fish and it is usually a pretty happening place. The fish is great although a bit on the pricey side. We like to take advantage of the rolls on “Happy Hour”  and we have always sat at the bar and had excellent service. The two restaurants share the bathrooms and private party rooms and have large aquariums to check out. For a great night without leaving the zip code check out these two places. They will not disapoint

Cardiff Kook gets a friend

July 29th, 2009

This was added Saturday nite the 25th of July. It stayed there for most of the week til Friday. Quite a piece of work, one might have to say more authentic in pose. Certainly more elaborate than any of the costumes the Kook has tried on.

They have fresh cookies and breads too. And if you are having a birthday or wedding this is THE place to get the cake. They are located in the little strip mall alomg San Elijo between the Office and Beach City Tacos. DO NOT MISS VG DONUTS!  MMMMM

Fathers Day ‘09

June 21st, 2009

Fathers Day is probably the day I miss my dad the most. It seems like everything I do somehow relates back to him and the time he spent with me – whether I was 5, 25, or even 45. I washed my car today and remember when he first taught me how to wash a car. “Get everything you are going to need together. Hose down the entire car and then start at the top and work your way down. Do a section at a time and rinse in between sections. Do the wheels last and use a chamois when you are finished washing.” I was probably 10 or 12 years old then and I am not sure I ever did wash his car for him, but the lesson sure came in handy  when I was a few years older. And so did his bucket, hose, soap and chamois.

Twenty years later, long after I had started going to the car wash and having some one do it for 10 bucks, he showed me his brush on the end of a pole that made washing the car a lot quicker and easier. I went home with his brush that day and have been washing my own vehicles ever since. And every time I think of my father and of all the thing he he taught me and how much I am like him. And I miss him.

There are many other things I learned from him; mechanical stuff, common sence stuff, life stuff. I remember how he used to pack the family into a camper and travel all over the country camping at National Parks and KOA campgrounds. How he worked everyday to afford to do what he wanted and so his family had nice things. His love of driving, fixing things, horse-trading, and how I used to think he was a perfectionist. Really, I know now that he just wanted to me to try and do my best.

My dads father died when he was young and I am sure he had to grow up quick. I know he made friends easily and I am thinking his friends were the source of his knowledge and experiences that in myself I attribute to my parents and family. I am very fortunate to have known him for almost fifty years. I try to keep in touch with all my brothers and sisters and call my mom most every day because I know that family is the most important. I like to think somehow he knows and sees (or at least saw) the good things about me and takes a little bit of the credit them while I  just  keep trying to be a little bit better person knowing the bar is set pretty high.

Thanks dad, I love you and miss you

Why Government Can’t Run a Business

May 20th, 2009

I liked this editorial in the Wall Street Journal today and thought I would post a link. All us California voters have sent another message to at least the governator and hopefully it will not get struck down by the courts (as other propositions have) and the spending will stop.

Tyrone Wells in Concert

While friends and family in Olympia Washington are crying because it rained a little in May, Maria and I were aboard a Hornblower Yacht enjoying the sights of San Diego Bay and sounds of Tyrone Wells, a former Washingtonian. It was a little cool (65ish) but with a housing affordability index of 61%, there has never been a better time to buy a home in San Diego. So give me a call and we will find you a place or quit complaining!

KPRI Radio, fm 102.1, presents what I feel to be the best concerts available today. With up and coming artists or perhaps bands and musicians discovered and played by them for years, the intimate venues create very special memories. To attend you must be one of their frequent listeners and pick up tickets at one of the sponsors businesses. We have attended probably 20 or so including Augustana, Colbie Caillat, Big Head Todd, The Old 99’s, Collective Soul….  at several different places. Tyrone really is a great performer as well as musician and engaged the audience with stories of Spokane, serenading couples’ proposals, and meeting James Taylor. If you get a chance, see him or pick up a cd, it is a voice you will be hearing more of.p1010026
